Declaration of Dependence
Possibly the most notable sermon ever preached was delivered by Jesus and recorded in the gospel of Matthew (chapters 5-7). It is a concise and beautiful proclamation of how citizens of the new kingdom under Jesus should live. I call it a "Declaration of Dependence." We're not to model ourselves after religious hypocrites who care much about appearance and little about matters of the heart. Nor are we to live like the wandering pagan who is driven by fears, passions and selfish desires. Instead, if we claim Jesus Christ as our King, it means we place all of life under His Lordship. When Jesus becomes the driving force in our lives, it affects every motive, thought, word and relationship. It shapes our character, our influence, our ambitions and ultimately, our destiny. We cannot find true happiness apart from Jesus. We are dependent upon Him and the wisdom He gives. From February through May, we'll be breaking down that famous sermon and look at it's obvious relevance to our lives.
*You will notice there is a link for the "Sermon Notes." There is also a link for "Going Deeper." Going Deeper is a bible study to take you deeper in your spiritual walk by presenting a series of questions to consider based on the sermon.
